Young patients inspiring future spaces

The new children’s hospital and research centre building will celebrate a range of animals found in the wetlands, sand dunes and sea cliffs of the local area, linking in with the landscape-inspired colour scheme.

Each level of the new building will have a unique local animal dedicated to helping identify the floor and its services, with illustrations of the selected animal featuring in wall graphics and a range of wayfinding signage installations – from lift lobbies and corridors to department entrances.

Engagement with Hospital School students has helped inform the narratives of the various animals, with the input of children and young people guiding artists in the development of large-scale wall graphics that will feature across each of the hospital floors and showcase the animals in their natural habitat.
